There are many new programs being introduced to Niagara College for the 2010/2011 academic year.
One that has already become a popular choice is the Digital Photography program. Stephen Dominik, already a photography professor at the college, helped launch the program.

Zoey Davies, 18, of St. Catharines, is a Grade 12 high school student interested in pursuing a career in photography. She says, "I was told that this program was starting and I immediately applied." The program is one that she has always hoped to find, and it is even more appealing because she doesn't have to go to another school far away.
According to the Niagara college website, the program is "an intensive four-semester program designed to help train the student's artistic eye, master digital imaging technologies, develop an individual style and create a cutting-edge portfolio."
Davies is only one of many aspiring photographers who have applied to the program. "Photography is my passion. If I don't get in this program, I'm not sure what I will do."  The photography program is wait-listed. Since the program became available, it seems as though the word about it and its popularity has spread fast.
Davies is on the wait-list but she says she remains optimistic she will be able to participate in it. "If worse comes to worse, I could just reapply for the January start if they have it."
Whether you want to be a self-employed photographer, a photo editor or even a digital effects employee, this program offers you the tools to better your photography skills.
You will learn the history of photography, darkroom techniques and an introdction to photography studios. Students can expect to be immersed in the actual studios, gaining studio time even in the first year.
