Pillitteri Estates Winery found what works, and what works is finding the right grapes, the right temperature and the right creative minds.
April 9, Niagara College's Niagara-On-The-Lake (N.O.T.L.) campus hosted Pillitteri Estates Winery, the world's largest producer of icewine, in its search for a secondary brand to offer its export markets.

Five teams from the Wine Business Management Graduate Certificate, Graphic Design Production - Art and Design Fundamentals, Business Administration - Marketing and Bachelor of Applied Business and Hospitality Operations Management programs competed for their label to be chosen.
Jeff Letvenuk, marketing and media relations manager for the winery and a recent graduate of Wine Business Management, says, "I felt this would be a win-win opportunity. The idea was presented to the college and they jumped at the opportunity to have their best students compete for a branding challenge and gain some valuable real world experience."
Each team had a presentation board featuring their brand name and bottle and box design on display in the Wine Visitor and Education Centre.
Although Charles Pillitteri, winery president, announced that all labels would eventually be used, Jessica Kueh and Jillian Grenier, creators of Iceworks were came in first place.
The duo lost  two other members in the process but still managed to produce a label and design that impressed the judges.
Kueh says, "We chose the colours because red and gold appeal to the majority of the market."
Letvenuk says Iceworks met all of their goals with their story of celebrating, "the connection to fireworks and the representation of Canada with the embedded maple leaf design and slogan, ‘A toast to the world from Canada'."
Pillitteri hopes to have the Iceworks label on bottles within a year.
Second place went to Sol'Ice, third place to Otto, fourth was L'unita and fifth place was Sotto Otto.
