By KYRSTY SEMENCHUK Staff Writer Looking good on screen is crucial, so only the most talented can apply your makeup.
On Feb. 3 at Niagara College, Kathy Rupcic shared her knowledge of applying makeup as a profession. She verbally compared TV makeup to on-screen high definition makeup. During TV broadcasts, makeup is light on an actor’s face. Colours are simple and less extravagant than high definition makeup and Rupcic demonstrated that fact. Before completing the seminar, Rupcic involved two Broadcasting — Radio, Television and Film (BRTF) students, Amanda Johnson and Ryan McGuinty, by applying their makeup. “I said I’d be the guinea pig and it was pretty interesting to be up there having her work on me,” says McGuinty. “It was a little bit of a different feeling to have makeup on, but the way I looked at it was, if that is the way the industry works then I need to get used to that sort of thing.” Rupcic is a woman who makes the stars beautiful and keeps their makeup intact. She is a broadcasting graduate of Niagara College, so applying makeup was just another career choice. “It was a good way for me to keep TV in my future,” Rupcic says. “It’s broadening my horizons and I get to be more creative.”Rupcic has been coming back to the college for presentations and seminars for several years, since she was a student in the program and then worked in the field her knowledge has grown. “I thought the presentation was useful,” McGuinty says. “I had very little knowledge about any of the things she talked about and it’s always good to hear about industry related material, so the presentation held my interest.”Rupcic’s presentation seemed to go over well with the students and the co-ordinator, Tom Otto. “The presentation is always excellent,” says Otto. “Rupcic does a great job. She has great appreciation for the people on camera and the people in the program.”Rupcic demonstrated her talent and experience on camera in front of the students who need this skill in their future careers. |
