By JOSH LADOUCEUR Staff Writer Niagara College students tried a spinoff of the typical trivia night Feb. 22 at the After Hours pub.
The Student Administrative Council (SAC) hosted Treevia night, hoping to raise money for the Green Up campaign. Admission was $10 for students and $12 for others. Contestants entered teams of up to four people and competed in six 10-question rounds of Treevia for a top prize of a $100 gift voucher for Mervish Theatre Co., and a $100 Toronto dinner voucher. “We wanted to raise money and awareness for the Green Up campaign, so we called it Treevia,” says SAC Director of Publications Chardae Smith, 19, an Early Childhood and Education student. The campaign is a landscaping and tree planting initiative to plant 200 trees at each Niagara College campus.Practical nursing student, Nikki Nicholson, 19, thought it was going to be questions about trees, and was slightly disappointed it was just general trivia. SAC Director of Student Life, Randi-lee Bowslaugh, 22, Correctional and Justice Services student, got the idea for Treevia when she attended a trivia night at her boyfriend’s sister’s school.Although only four teams competed, SAC members were pleased with the event.“I’m excited, and I’m happy with the turnout. Weather didn’t seem to stop people,” Bowslaugh says. |
